My husband and I want to go to Phuket. We don't mind kids but we also don't want to be surrounded by them day and night (no offense to the parents out there!) and are looking for a nice holiday where we will get some good R&R. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on Club Med Phuket and how suitable it might be for us?

I have never been to Phuket but I have been to several family CMs. First of all I do not know if you have been to a CM before. If you have excuse me for giving basic info. CM does a very good job keeping the kids busy and active so they are often out of sight. Frankly, I think you might be better off with a family CM than one that takes kids but with no special activities. Then they will be hanging around. CM is also generally a big piece of property so you can find some secluded place to relax. Check out the kids schedule so you can go elsewhere. Lastly, do late breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Less kids as they generally eat early. Also hit the speciality restaurants as families are less likely to go there. Try to hang out with the GOs so you don't have to listen to family talk. I wouldd advise you to try an adult CM if you can. I think they are a dying breed and give yourself a chance to enjoy it. Finally, a family CM is still fun for couples w/o kids but it is a tamer, lower key vibe than an adult CM.

Been to Phuket twice in 2008. Liked it so much in May that I went back in October.
While there are certainly kids around, they really do not bother at all. First, the kids club is fantastic and the Asian kids are very well behaved. Also, the Asian usually eat very early, especially when they have kids, and do not hang out very late.
There were very few non-Asian kids, some French expat families, that's about it. Depends obviously also on the period you intend to be there.

IMO, Phuket is a village suitable for everybody: families, couples and singles.

I've been to several family CM's before. Once i went during the French school holiday, and that is definitely something you have to avoid if you don't want too much kids around.

Kiki and I are in total agreement in our love of Phuket. It is one of my all time favorite clubs, and that's after a 22 hour flight from Chicago! I have been there twice. The Asian kid's clubs are run differently than in the American zone. As Kiki says, the kid's are much better behaved, and the club doesn't center around them as it does in the America's. I can't ever remember seeing a kid's show there. You hardly notice the kids.

If you haven't ever been to Thailand, you are in for a mind boggling cultural experience. It is like information overload, but highly enjoyable. This is a very internationally diverse club. Do go on some of the excursions. The one into Pang Nga Bay on the Junk is worth it. BTW, it is the junk that Pierce Brosnan was on in his first James Bond film.

The rainy season does start around May, so if you go in the summer, expect some showers.

You will have a great time.
