Kiki, I finally finished posting the photos. Thank you for your nice words. I have posted photos of Thailand and Phuket from my visit in April 1999. You can see the photos at http://jdlphotos.smugmug.com. After looking at the fine photos of gros_porcinet, it doesn't look like much has changed since 1999. I have included several galleries of Thailand, because Thailand is so much more than a beach. It is a fascinating place. There are several galleries. I have broken the photos up into groups to make them easier to view. The galleries are:

Club Med Phuket--Pretty self-explanatory. It also includes photos of Kata Noi as well.

Bangkok/Floating Market--The floating market is touristy, but yet is an active floating market. Interesting visit.

Rose Garden/Wat Phra Pathom--This was an excursion I took out of Bangkok. BTW, I don't know why they call it the Rose Garden, because I didn't see any roses, but there is an interesting cultural show.

Flowers--Okay, I like flowers. Most of these were shot on the Club grounds. They are worth looking at because of the beauty around the Club.

Grand Palace Bangkok--Is it touristy-yes; is it a must see-absolutely. I know when you look at these you will say, John, you took a lot of pictures of temples--well, there are a lot of temples there, and they are unbelieveably beautiful. Forgive me if I messed up on some of the names.

Wat Po--BTW, Wat means temple. I recommend this gallery because of the beauty of the temples and the costumes of the dancers. Really impressive.

I hope that you enjoy them.

Sorry, I neglected to mention that there is another gallery--Phang Nga Excursion. It was an excursion that I took out of the club and it is a good one. If they still have it, make a point of signing up. Also, for those of you who may have noticed that I took photos of people praying to Buddha. In respect to their privacy, I had my guide ask for permission before I took any photos. That includes the photos of the monks as well. Everyone was very accomodating.

Also, if you wish to see the photo featured on the right in the gallery, just click on it and it will be singled out. You can then enlarge it by clicking on the options at the top of the photo. Click the small x to get back to the gallery.

Thanks John for having posted all those Thailand photos.
I've already travelled quite extensively during three longer trips in Thailand including up to the Golden Triangle.

Not sure, Phang Nga is worth a second time. Been there, done that it is for me.

We've even been at the Simon Cabaret and found it quite amusing although slightly tacky. But there was a lady boy doing Michael Jackson and that was absolutely outstanding.

In case I'd go to Phuket, there's maybe Phi Phi Island and/or Krabi left to do (the latter not being offered by CM excursions though).

I would have liked to have gone to Ko Phi Phi, but I guess you can't do everything. I understand that it is great for snorkeling. I think that they shot "Beaches" there. Funny story. We had just finished the archery tournament, and Colin (Archery GO) sent me into Kata Noi to get some Mekong and Coke and he took his motorcycle into Phuket to get some food for a celebration. Colin was late getting back. When he finally got back we all asked why he was late. He said they were shooting a film in Phuket and he almost ran over this Yank Bloke. He said everyone was excited because the guy was in the movie. I asked him what the guy's name was. He said, Leo Capo or something like that. I said, was it Leonardo Di Caprio? He said, Right, that was the Bloke's name. Who is he? I said, you wouldn't understand, but if you had run into him every teenage girl in world would be after your head.

John,

That was possibly when The Beach was shot somewhere near Phuket or rather on Phi Phi, no?

Kiki,
I haven't seen the film (I heard it wasn't all that good). They probably stayed in Phuket and then went to Ko Phi Phi for shooting. I'm sure they shot around Phuket and Phang Nga Bay as well. BTW, after looking at that website, I an sorry that I missed Ko Phi Phi. Of course, in April, the weather is not as good as it would be now.

John,

Indeed, the movie wasn't that great. I remember it as sort of boring.
I once saw it on TV, but wouldn't have paid to see it in a theater.
