Hi, I just got back from the interview for a set designer GO position. It went quite well until I showed the interviewer my animation showreel

he basically told me that I overqualify and they could only pay me x amount. I told him it doesnt really matter, as I'm looking for the experience and money is not really an issue. He told me to reconsider and called him again if I'm still interested. Now... I wonder if there's some set designer GO or XGO here who can help me with some questions that's been bugging me since the interview...
1. how much carpentry stuff should i expect to do? I can do basic nail/plank stuff

and know a bit about structure and constuction.. but IF i have to do a whole wooden massive set alone .. it's just impossible

.. ( I designed and supervised some stage for international and local events.. and the contractor used 20-30 people for a 24 hour deadline)
2. what is the basic work scope for a set designer? let's say I've painted some huge banner and backdrop, should i attach them myself on the top wall and ceiling with no help? I can do the painting, but if I have to attach them alone. at odd hours with no help..
3. the decor doesnt have to be made of wood .. does it?

there's many other materials that's lighter and easier to handle .. the end justify the means.. cloth, styroform and paper could make an amazing backdrop too
4.will i get a raise once i finish my 3 months training? okay okay I know its not much but hey who's gonna pay for my drinks?
5.can i still perform if i'm in charge of the set design?

6. why no more free bar books??????

that's all for now.... i'll ask more later .. reply if u can, people.. need to contact that guy again soon .. thanks in advance

ps. any chance PUR the indonesian set designer in Phuket reading this forum? argh I'm seriously thinking about calling him personally and ask him these questions...
