Hi everybody,

I am planning to spend 5 days at the Club Med either Phuket or Bintan, but I can not decided which one is better..... how is the weather for the end of May and beginning of June for both??
Which one has a nicer beach?? of course.. any other information that you might want to add will help on my decision!!

PS: I am going with my girlfriend.. so just want to relax and enjoy the sun....

Thanks!!

Thailand and the club at Phuket are fantastic, but it is the beginning of rainy season in that part of Thailand. I have been to Phuket in January and in April. January weather was perfect. In April we had rain about every other day. However, it did not rain all day, and I still had a great time.

It is a very large and public beach at the club in Phuket, but it isn't very crowded. You can get a very cheap massage right on the beach or inexpensive massage at the club. They really are wonderful. The excursions are wonderful. I don't think that Bintan has many excursions. I think the food is great at both places. Typically the accomodations and food are better in the Asian zone than in the Americas.

BTW, you are about 11 time zones away from Phuket or Bintan. It is a long ways away.

John

PS: The best thing about the club in Phuket (at least pre-tsunami) was the archery range. The sides of the archery range were protected by jasmine bushes. It is the only exercise where you smell better went you left than when you arrived.

I visited Phuket in June before and it didnt rain. It is less humid as well.

You can check on the numerous postings on Phuket.

So without sounding ad nauseum with my praises for Phuket ( in my other postings), I 'd go Phuket anytime !

Thanks for your quick reply guys!!

John, I am now in Taiwan taking some chinese class so I am close.

My concern is the weather cause here in Taipei.. it has been rainning for a long time already.. and I just want to get out of this f*** weather....and enjoy some time at the beach...

I have been at Trancoso, Rio das Pedras and Playa Blanca in Mexico.. and like the food on all of them.. so if you are saying that food in Asia is better.. wooow....

Thanks for the infos..

Hi Zipp,

I'm currently a GO in Bintan, and just this morning I came back from a 3-day trip to Phuket, so the comparison is fresh in my mind.

In my opinion, this is the most significant difference:

Club Med Ria Bintan's beach is A LOT nicer than the beaches I saw in Phuket, but there's nothing to see outside the village in Bintan, and TONS to see in Phuket

Regarding the weather, April is the first month of Bintan's dry season (lasts til October), while in Phuket, it did seem to be overcast a lot, but you never know with weather!

And John is right, the food is great in both places.

One last note: Bintan does not offer scuba, while Phuket does, so if that's what you like, then you should choose Phuket.

Otherwise, it depends if you want to lie on a beautiful beach (choose Bintan) or go out of the Club and see the sites (choose Phuket).

Anyway, both villages are great! :)

Bintan is a really nice village although there is not alot to do on the island so if you want to go on excusrsions Phuket would be better for you....although Bintan has a really nice private beach!

Hi we have just returned from a week in Phuket. The beach was magnificent, and as previously stated there is so much to do in the immediate area. We found we really didn't use Club Med facilities and activities (other than the beach or pool) at all due to so much to do and see on the island.
The weather was great, we had spectacular storms around 7-8pm each evening with maybe 30 minutes of rain, otherwise great beach weather.
There are so many excursions available, but don't book anything through Club Med, they are so expensive. Out in the street or online before you go is much better and with a better choice. Same with massages, Club Med was very overpriced and hard to make a booking, whereas on the beach or up the next street, they were available whenever you wanted for about 10% of Club Med's price.
Have a great time.
Thanks to everyone who helped answer all of my questions before we went. If anyone has any queries let me know. I will post some photos as soon as we get organised.
thanks again

Deb
