Hello,

My friends and I are doing a trip to Asia this summer, and we planned on ending the trip at the club med in Phuket. I have a couple of important questions.

1) Am I taking a huge gamble of bad weather by going in July? A little rain isn't the end of the world, but it would be a letdown if it was raining every day we were there.

2) Is club med phuket the kind of place where 3 days and 3 nights is enough, or should we do a week?

3) How is the nightlife in Phuket? Is there a city to go out in besides the club med?

4) Finally, how are summer rates?

Thanks,
Mike

Hello!! Yes you should definitely go to CM Phuket. I've been there every year in July since 2001....and I have experienced almost NO rain. It does rain a little--but its short showers and then warms again very quickly, as Phuket is extremely tropical climate/humid. Plus the ocean is gorgeous for swimming--even during the rain. haha. CM PHuket is great!! Theres plenty of things to do, the facilities are great, the GOs are awesome, even the nightclub is fun in the CM!! Plus theres ENDLESS things to do outside the CM. EspeciallY PATONG!! And Phuket town. There are always things going on--even late into the morning. Just ask the GOs...they often go out at like 1am and stay out all night :) At least thats what they told me....I went with them a couple yrs ago and it was awesome. As for summer rates--I dont really know how they compare to the rest of the time, but Ithink they're lower because its rainy season. Have fun!!!

The weather won't be as nice as it is in January, and it will be more humid. I was there the first time for 10 days and wasn't bored for a minute. It's a beautiful club, one of my favorites. And the food--wow! I don't know where you are coming from, but definitely check out the excursions. They are really worthwhile. Walk into the village as well. They have some nice restaurants, sell great Tin-Tin T-shirts, and have $125 brand new Rolex watches for sale. Well, at least they look like Rolex watches.

John

PS: You might want to stay away from the Mekong whiskey that they sell in the grocery stores.

1. Weather wise - it should be fine though July starts getting wetter.
But the weather is pretty unpredictable these days - who'd expected snow in australia last week

2. Nawww .. easily a week if you have the time

3. DOnt expect the same type of nitelife is Bangkok as you would in Phuket. The bar scene is really at Soi Bangla at Patong - reckon about 30 minutes away from CM. Yes, there is a town where there are shopping centres and restaurants.

4. Yup, summer rates are cheaper since it is considered off peak / rainy season.

DOnt forget to try the thai massage.

Yup. stay away from the mekong whiskey - if u really have to drink it - get a mixer like a coke.

Phuket is fun - went there twice this year ~

Amid the embers, no one dreamed of a white Christmas
Richard Kerbaj
December 26, 2006

YES, this is Australia. Snow, and plenty of it, doused the alpine bushfires, transforming the blackened landscape in Victoria's east into a brilliant white.
Christmas revellers - enjoying a sweltering 34C - took to Perth's popular beaches, and holidaymakers in Queensland intent on getting sand between their toes were not disappointed by the muggy 32C.

Melburnians, on the other hand, shrouded by smoke for the past fortnight, had their coldest-ever Christmas Day and were pelted with hail and chilled by biting winds.

Just days after fearing deadly fires would destroy their mountain, residents atop Mt Buller, northeast of Melbourne, were hurling snowballs at each other and shaking their heads in amazement. Likewise, in parts of Tasmania, and Thredbo, in the NSW snow territory, snowmen were the order of the day.

As much as 30mm of snow fell at Mt Baw Baw overnight.

"I've never seen snow fall before in my life, so I thought it would be worth it on Christmas Day just to go up there and have a look," 25-year-old Peter Tuffley said, gripping girlfriend Andrea Innes in the thick snow. "I loved it, it was great."

There is more on the way for Thredbo and Perisher in NSW.
