My husband, myself and two kids (aged 16 and 12) are going to Phuket for our first Club Med experience in April. I was very excited about this holiday but after reading lots of recent reviews on the net (not this site), I am now a bit worried. I have read lots of reviews that say the rooms at Club Med Phuket are dirty, the bathrooms are mouldy and that the air conditioning never works. Can someone reassure me that this is not the case!

I definitely am not expecting five star accommodation, but considering that this holiday is costing over $10000 AUD I do expect clean, comfortable rooms.

Hopefully someone from Australia can reply and reassure me.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm not an Aussie, but let a Yank put in his two cents. I have been to Phuket twice and stayed in two different sections. Once I was on the ground floor and the second time on the second floor. The air conditioning always worked, the rooms were spotless, and the bathrooms were clean. This was before the tsunami, and it is probably better now, since they had to do a thorough clean-up. By the way, the food was exceptional and the excursions were full of good memories. I went on the Chinese junk cruise, and was on the boat that Pierce Brosnan used in the James Bond film. This is one of my all time favorite clubs, and I have been to 20. The clientle is very international, with a lot of Aussies. When I was there the last time, we had 51 nationalities. You are going to have a great time.

I was in CM Phuket in April and Sept this year with senior citizens and young children.

We stayed in two sections; the newly renovated section nearer the spa and the older rooms nearer the archery club.

We had great fun and no one complained about the cleanliness or hygiene of the rooms or village.

And CM is not paying me to say this either !

Psst: If price is not an issue, you may wish to ask for the newer Deluxe rooms which are bigger and comes with more amenities

I am sure you and your family will have a wonderful time in Phuket.

Thanks John-Chicago and Vinz for your replies. You have set my mind at rest considerably. As for upgrading to the deluxe rooms, that had occurred to me but as our children are adult prices it works out at over $700.00 AUD each to upgrade, which is simply too much on top of what we have already paid.

If anyone else has any comments I would love to hear them also. If fact any information whatsoever about Club Med Phuket would be welcome. We have never been to Thailand or Club Med before. I have scoured the net and found heaps of stuff regarding Phuket itself and virtually every resort there, except Club Med.

Thanks again for your help.

Wow, are you in for a treat. The best description that my travel agent gave me about Phuket, and Thailand in general, is that it is information overload. The town, I think that it is called Kata Noi, is within easy walking distance of the club. Lots of interesting stores and restaurants. I highly recommend that you check out the excursions, even the one into Phuket town. All of you should take your cameras. The Buddhist temples are beautiful, and the people are very accepting. Most of the street signs are in English and Thai. Plenty of activities at the club from golf to archery to morning stretching. If they still have a Thai show on one of the evenings, it is very colorful. Shopping bargains galore. My guilty pleasure--about 5 Tin Tin T-shirts that I bought in town. In America, very few of us have heard of Tin Tin, and the graphics on the shirts were so cool I had to buy them. I have had several people stop me on the street in Chicago and ask me where I got the shirt. I tell them to go to Bangkok and take a left.

I repeat, take your cameras because there are lots of things to take photos of. Bali and Phuket are two of the most beautiful clubs I have been to. Bon Voyage.

I've been to CM Phuket 3 times , the room always clean and air conditioner always work accept the last time that I go about 1 month ago cause the electricity at Kata beach is shut down so Air conditioner may be too hot but me and my friend go out and sat down by the pool that have wind from the sea all the time after 2-3 hours everything go back to normal

So don't worry , have fun in CM and I have some pics of room in my space you can see it at http://lantombythesea.spaces.live.com/?lc=1033

I have been to CM PHuket 5 times and I have loved it more and more each time. Last yr was my favorite though, as it was quite empty this yr since I went in rainy season(september). The people there are so nice, friednly and welcoming. The CM is a super nice village....with gigantic pool, trapeze, big buffet restaurant, stage, and of course right next to one of the nicest beaches in Phuket(Kata Beach). Its only a few minutes tuk tuk ride from Patong, the nightlife center of Phuket. And of course cheap shoppping and delicious thai food everywhere!!
The GOs were always really friendly....I met some of my closest Cm friends there. Look for Wana, Vicky, Lady and Nur when you go :)
