I have been to Phuket twice. Once in January and once in April. In January the weather was perfect. In April the rains start. However, it doesn't rain all the time, even during the rainy season. In August you will be going at the end of the rainy season. The best time to go is during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter. The weather is ideal. I hope some people from Singapore or KL will write and give you more specific advice. By the way, it is one of my favorite clubs.

In August, the southern part of Thailand is rainy season. But, it is not the heavy rain or the whole day. It's only short period. But, maybe not suit to travel to islands.

Because of this low season, the tourists are few. This will be the great opportunity to travel to many places in Phuket. The spending costs are also lower than in the high season.

Another recommendation, Krabi is another great place along the andaman sea, too. If you have a chance to visit Phuket, you may add Krabi to your schedule.

Yes, do expect rain !

I've been to phuket in aug-sep before

But its not as bad as most people make it to be.

Expect to get average 2.5 hours rain in the day.

Anyway, the club has closed the sea sports but there are still plenty of things to do !

sass1973,
There are many reasons that it is one of my favorite clubs. First of all remember that I live in the US, so it is a 23 hour trip to get there. You have to want to go. I should have said that I love the club and Thailand as well. The club is a beautiful club and the rooms are far better than what we get in the American zone. Lots of activities, like golf (right at the club), archery, etc. Also, it has some of the best food that I have ever had at a club med. Other reasons--

1. It is a very international clientle. People are from all over the world.
2. The evening entertainment was excellent.
3. I loved the excursions, even into the town of Phuket.
4. There are some real bargains in Thailand, even in the town of Phuket (jewelry, wood carvings, gemstones, silk, etc).
5. I spent some time in Bangkok, which was incredible, especially if you like photography.
6. The Thai people are wonderful people who are very service oriented. You are very welcome in the Buddhist temples. Just show respect.
7. Now don't laugh, but Kata (the village outside the club) has great collections of Tin-Tin T-shirts. I love the graphics.

I have been to Phuket 4 times now.....and I go in July or August every year. I have not experienced much problem with rain. While I was there, it rained two days tops. And it was short periodic showers, not a downpour. Although last year there was one day where there was a downpour....but it stopped pretty quickly as well. So go and have fun! The surrounding area is really fun to explore as well! Especially Patong! :)

I'm humbled by your compliment. I might also suggest that you go to the Club Med Australian site to get an overview on Phuket (I think that it is clubmed.com.au). The Aussies do an incredible job on that site. Much better than the Americans. Also, Gingerbr75 always gives good advice. If you like, I can send you some JPEGS that I took at the club about a year before the tsunami. I hope it still looks the same. Check my profile to get my email address.

John

PS: Absolutely have a Thai massage at the club when you are there.

Hi Brian

Scuba diving at Phuket is managed by Euro-Divers. it may be easiest to e-mail them at [email protected] to find out about the scuba diving there in August.
