Hi;

I'm intending to go to Turks in end of July and I've booked 3 days of scuba diving sessions.

Since it's only 'beginners sessions', do I need to bring a medical certificate ? or is it only required for 'experienced sessions'.

Hi Fandor,

A great question and I'm glad you asked! You MUST bring a Medical Certificate that has been issued within this past year. It used to be that North Americans, (Canadian and U.S.), could just answer questions on a Medical sheet however, it is recommended that ALL FOLKS THAT WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN SCUBA BRING A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WITH THEM TO SIGNUP AT THE CLUB. Sorry to shout but if someone has any condition that might preclude them from scuba, CM will not allow them to dive. Sometimes those conditions are acceptable for diving and your diving Physician will clear you but the Club won't. There have been some divers that come to the Club in this situation and because they didn't have the Medical, couldn't dive. Now if you've traveled all that way, paid all that money....just to dive, that might piss you off! The Certificate will prevent all of that.

Bring an original Certificate to show and a copy that the SCUBA team can keep, ( they will be happy that they don't have to walk quite a ways to make a copy of it if you need the original).

There is NO differentiation between "Beginners" and Certified divers is this issue. All are participating in diving and all need the Medical.

Your 3-day "beginner" package will include two afternoon sessions in either the pool or in a confined water-like area near the scuba shack, (Instructors' preference). On the third day, you will be open-water diving on the morning two-tank, (two dives), boat with your Instructor. You then may dive with an Instructor the rest of your stay, (for additional cost). I recommend that you sign-up the evening that you arrive, (7:00pm), at the Sea Center, located across from the "old" boutique, up the stairs and near Reception. If you arrive on a Tuesday night, you will have to sign up at the scuba shack, located at the end of the Village on the Marina side, (they do the night-dive on Tuesdays). Bring your copy of the Medical Certificate with you. It also helps to have a copy of your trip booking that shows you paid for your package. Sometimes the Club doesn't update that information well and show you on the "prepaid list". This all saves time.

Please also say "Hi" to Michel, Matt and the rest of the team from Bruce.

You will have a great time with a great team! Have fun and come back and let us know so we can be jealous.

Bruce

Oh! I almost forgot......if you wish to have a wetsuit, (recommended even in the summer), you will need to stop at Reception and open up an account with a credit card, before you go to sign-ups. The wetsuit rental is $10.00US for the one day you will be diving in open water. This is NOT included in your Beginner Package. Additional days cost the same and you can rent one for the week for $40.00US, if you dive more. Your best bet, (since you are there just for the week and two days are your confined water lessons), is to just rent one by the day.

After you open your account, Reception will give you a "white card" which you can use to charge the wetsuit rental to your room. You can also use the white card to book excursions and use it for things you might want in the Boutique.

Thanks for all thoses details.

I've just found an official medical referee from UK Sport Diving Medical Committee who can deliver such of certificate. I've Just contacted her, and she can deliver a certificate for about 40£.

For the accessories, I'm intending to bring my own dive mask and my snorkel. I hope they will provides the fins and the gas tank ;). I've already practised diving few years ago, in South of France, but at this time, the instructors didn't ask for medical certificate.

Cheers;

Hi Fandor,

They can provide any and all gear you need. You shouldn't need a snorkel since you will be just jumping off of, and back on to, a boat, and not taking full Certification classes. Some folks like to have them though.

Please don't forget to say Hi to my buddies and let us know how your trip was when you return. You'll have a great time.

Dad
