Is Faru still open?

It is a great village if you like scuba diving, if not you'd better bring a very very good book.

Hi

Faru re-opened December 02. Faru Island is the first Club Med adults-only village to be opened in the Asia Pacific region.

I have heard that Faru is very close the existing and new airport being built in the Maldives. I was on Kani last year and loved it… absolutely beautiful and away from the airport. Have a look on this site http://www.seamply.fr/contenu_article.asp?article=1719

You’ll be see what other people have written about Faru and Kani.

I spoke to the Club Med sales director here in Kuala Lumpur about this. According to him, there are no problems which relate to the construction of the airport (extension to the existing airport). The Club Med dive sites are some distance away, so should not be a problem there either. Enjoy your trip!

Hi poulpinette, you will definitely see Manta's and possibly Whale Sharks and various other marine species... The Maldives is a magnificent place for diving or just lazing around the island.

I don't suppose Faru has circus? I don't remember reading that it did.. but thought I'd check! :) My favourite was Turks.. but it's so far away from Australia!

Nope, no circus in Faru. But you have a choice of other villages in Asia - apart from Bali - Phuket, Bintan, Cherating and Kabira! Cherating is closed for 6 months for renovations though. You might consider Phuket - when we were there in March this year, the circus was more or less operating at 1/4 capacity, so lots of personal attention from the GOs, who seemed grateful whenever anyone stepped up to the trapeze. :-)

Just got back from a great holiday in Faru. A quick report :

GO team - v fun and friendly. A bunch of nice people on the whole.

GMs - a mixed bunch. There must have been at least 15 nationalities there at any time, with the majority being Europeans. Mostly divers, so many are asleep quite early (which makes the disco quite empty...).

Water clarity - around Faru is OK. The water is clear and clean despite it being very near the new airport/city construction site (no noise - not to worry!). Eg. just walking round the island, we saw some sting rays just 3 feet from the shoreline. My friends who'd been there in 1996 say that the water used to be much better before, and there were even more fish in the waters around Faru. While it used to be possible to snorkle just off the beach in front of the Club, it wasn't really worth doing now. Snorkelling and dive sites are away from the Club, so those don't seem to be affected.

The snorkelling GO in Faru commented that we can probably see more variety snorkelling in Faru than diving in Turks. Yes, she's done both.

Diving - I don't dive, but one of my friends thinks that for really serious diving, there are other places in the Maldives which offer better diving than Faru.

On the whole, I'd recommend that everyone goes there before the new airport kicks into operation. Probably within the next 2 years.

Nopes, Zenis. The only Singaporean GO in the village was Darren, the lifeguard.

As we said in Faru, Put your hands up in the air, put your hands up...in the air!

I spent good time in faru and we were quite lucky ... a lot of mantas!!!
I spent 22 minutes with 5 mantas turning around us very closely ... It was incredible!

Special thanks for the "CHEF"- Good Food, for Guiseppe alias Pépé the GO very talented, and Joe de Anvers.

Bonne année à tous!
