I'm a college student taking the Hotel Management course. I'll have to decide on my training place soon. I'm thinking of Club Med Cherating, Kuantan, Malaysia. But I need to know if the living condition there is good or not? Whether is it safe to walk at night? One room how many person sharing? and whether is the toilet far away from the hostel. I'll need to know about where to do the laundry and what should I pack there. Is the hostel far from the hotel?? I'll need to know all the basic information. Please help me! I don't know which hotel to choose. I'm not a GO, I'm just a trainee there in Club Med

Welcomd to CMP!

I recommend you read a bit on the forum, especially the Cherating section and you'll find out more about living conditions. I suppose they'll be the same for GOs and trainees.
Here's a good topic to start with:

Good luck!

Dear eevon89,
I was there in May, and posted a reasonably thorough review in the Cherating forum. If you are staying at the club, it is completly safe. You will probably have a room to yourself with all the toilet facilities right there. The rooms are air conditioned. Laundry facilties are scattered thoughout the club on the first floor of some buildings. I found the club to be well managed and very well run. You would learn a lot there, with a wide varieties of nationalities. If you do go there, say hello to Christie at the front desk. He will remember Carolyn's friend from Chicago. Good luck.

I'm 80% almost confirm going there for my training. Though my senior told me its very boring there, but the pictures in this forum seriously moved me!! That place is a beauty!! But as a staff are we allowed to join the activities or to use the laundry facilities??? and i heard alot of nightmares about the monkey there....aiksss!!! If it's completely safe, I dun mind walking alone at night~~ !! :)
And during Jan- March its monsoon right? Isn't it abit too bad then?? I have to admit I'm pretty much a city girl. If there's not much entertainment, I'm not sure if I can survive!!

Thanks for your replies. CMP ROCKS!!! i went club med cherating before when i was still a kid. I rmb joining Mini Club Med~~ it rocks!!! However since then i never return to club med already. Life is getting a whole lot busier! :(

I don't know how it is with an intern, but GO's are required to join in the activities. I would be shocked if the GO's don't make you feel right at home. There is a lot of activity every evening at the club. The monkeys---well, they are cute for about the first two days, then they are a pain in the neck. They won't bother you unless you are carrying food. You only see them in the early morning and in the evening. Never eat breakfast on the terrace. If you leave the table to get something, they will come and steal your food. Also, always, and I mean always, keep the door to your balcony locked. I saw how the monkeys can very easily open an unlocked door.

As to the laundry facilities, when I used them, there were GO's using them too. I'm sure that there will be some real rainy days. Not much that you can do about that. In the past the club was closed during part of the rainy season.

Yes, it is a very beautiful club.

I have been there is Feb and yes there will be some rain, but not too much to worry about. Nearly every afternoon the local guys who work in the restaurant, etc. (I think they are called GEs?), have a football match which can include GOs and GMs.

Actually I got shortlisted for Club Med already. However I'll be all alone there. Faraway from my hometown. Whenever I have off day can i follow the trip out to Kuantan town to buy some stuff???
What activities that the staff there can join? I mean trainee, since i'm not the staff yet. :P

Well, i say Go for it !

i am the GM who never got selected to be a GO ! haha

I think the best activity that you can indulge in is to get to know the GMs and GOs. That will keep you fully occupied !

<<I wonder what's the living condition in Club Med Cherating as an intern.
I know GOs get their own room and is permitted to use the laundry facilities. What bout intern? and I'm worry since I'm gong to be all alone there. Whenever i have offday what can I do there? as I know an intern is not allowed to use the club facilities.>>

BTW, I recommend you also read this thread, especially Chin's post (dated November 18).

First of all, Rachel,CONGRATULATIONS! When I was there, there were several interns, mainly at the front desk if I recall right. An internship there was very prestigious. I'm sorry that I can't provide any details as to internship life, but I wanted to wish you luck.
