I'm leaving for Cherating in less than 2 weeks to do bartending, any tips?
My recruiter hasn't informed me much. How are the living conditions, other GO's, working hours? What should I pack?

Most nights there is a dress theme that GOs need to wear. You can take a look at the site below that has the codes for Cancun. It seems the themes are often the same for villages and you should pack some clothes with these colors. Elegant night ranges from people dressed smartly in black to some even bring a suit. Also, if you are ever going to overpack this is one time to do so. Good luck!

Hi

The living conditions are not bad - GOs have their own rooms and every 2 rooms share a common toilet/bathroom/sink area. The GOs are pretty varied - from a variety of Asian countries, as well as Aust, NZ. Sth Africa, Mauritius, France etc. You get your laundry done by the village laundry operator for you for a small fee. And there are small businessmen from whom you can rent a fridge, tv and other appliances or buy one off a GO who's leaving. If you need stuff, you can go to the nearest towns Kemaman or Kuantan to pick up things.

Hope this helps.

Arne,
Pack light, it's hot there. I'm sort of kidding. Maukitten, as usual, has given you some good advice. I was there this last Spring, but I'm sure most of the GO's have moved on. You can read my feedback in a previous post in the Cherating section. When I was there, I found the GO's to be extremely friendly, the food to be extraordinary, and a wonderful sense of ambiance. You will be going into the rainy season this winter (November-March).

Do use a favor. After you have been there awhile, write to this forum and tell us about your experiences. Okay?

John

I guess the other tip is that club med has an all inclusive policy which provides free flow of non-premium drinks.

Expect a lot of thirsty people !

The Bar basically operates from 9 a.m (if I remember correctly) to 1 a.m everyday. Your work hours will be according to your shifts. And you will have one day off every week.

Uniforms will be provided during the day time. However, you need to bring your own white bottoms (shorts/bermudas/boardshorts). At night it will be according to the night theme which usually the recruiter will inform you in advance for you to prepare. In case, you do not have the required apparels for the night, you can always head to the costume room/HR office to borrow.

Oh,remember to bring more undies because you don't really have much time to do your laundry or when you do have the time, you will be too lazy to do it. Usually, we only do it on our offday.Heh.

The Bar Team is pretty cool bunch of people.Very friendly and fun-loving.Just bring a smile and a sense of humour and you will have no problem fitting in.

Enjoy and good luck!

i was there as a trainee early year 2007
worked in bar for 3 weeks

there will be a GE (who worked for 20++ years)
the work there is very very easy for G.O
coz, usually GE/ Trainees does the work besides serving

the opening of the bar is quite easy but some hard work to do like carrying stuff....( it was 6 months ago, i dunno whether they change their way of doing or not)

mise-en-place in the bar needed for coffee ( 9am to 10am, 230pm- 4pm)

works included jalan-jalan(bring a tray and cloth, walk around, collect glasses n wipe table top), GO will have to do mini bar service, take shift in Monkey bar ( beach bar, a very very very very simple bar)

as in white pants, usually provided, because dark blue uniform goes with dark blue pants.
blue uniform goes with white pants.
some GO wear skirts(white)
top must be uniform. bottom can be anything if u really out of pants.

laundry service is provided for the GO, juz right behind reception area. but some GO will juz send it to the Housekeeping GE for washing with paying rm100 per month.

when i was there, the theme included white(bar GO wears all black on white party), black, black n white, red n white, pink n white, flower n white, blue n white, flashy colour with white, ASIAN (must have, usually on thursday), cappucino, black elegant, jeans elegant.

to access to nearest town -kemaman, rm20 by cab (one way), every thursday will have a bus to send the GE to night market in kemaman, GO can follow too.
to kuantan, RM 50 one way. by cab too.
can contact reception to get a cab.

hope this can help u in surviving in club med
