Hey!
Sav what you said about the bar team is actaully true. I couldn't agree more. On my first day in Cherating, I ordered drinks and an Asian bar GO (i think she was Korean) took ages to prepare it. And when she did, she didn't even get the order right! I wasn't even asked what I wanted, I had to go ahead and say: "can i order?" in an irritated voice! The drinks were really not very good. You see, they have this free flow system where you order whatever you want so since the GOs know you're not actually paying extra, they make whatever they want. You could order the same drink many times and get many diffrent versions of it (more diluted, sweeter, more sour you name it!). Another thing is, they never had any of the right ingredients so we could never order our first choice! Basically, the bar wasn't the best....
You asked if the drinks were strong, sorry can't answer that, I don't drink alcohol :-)...Who's on the bar team? um....i can't really remember any names sorry because I didn't interact much with the GOs but there was one guy who was Australian another that was French, one Canadian girl, and most of the other girls were Asian.
Now to John. Sorry about that, I thought you'd been to Cherating before must've mixed you up with Gingerbr75 who has been there many times! Well, before this trip, I had been to Cherating 3 times so nothing shocked me very much (i was pretty young the first time i went so i can't remember my first impressions). I will tell you this, this village is amazingly beautiful. To me, it is the most beautiful in Asia. Of the ones I've been to of course (Bali-Phuket-Bintan&Cherating) (in your next post, tell me what other villages you've been to...). The construction and architecture are amazing and it's really ethnic in a beautiful way...The village is huge and the grounds are impressive.
I didn't go on any excursions because i usually find that there's a lot to do in villages and don't want to miss out on anything!!! But some GMs who were there went to a market in Kuantan and liked it very much. I'm sure the excursions are great (especially if you live in the States because Asian culture is just so different!) but i just can't certify it, sorry!
The rooms were a little disappointing. (especially because we thought they had been renovated but actually weren't) Ours was nice but pretty dark, with little closet space...Oh yeah, our balcony door was broken and a lightbulb was missing (but they fixed it in no time). Also, our room smelled strongly of tobacco, that was pretty bad. But hey it's Club Med, people don't usually spend much time in their rooms. Plus, when we were there, the village was jam-packed and we requested one of the most requested blocks which would explain the less-than-perfect state of our room....In fact, other GMs who were there, said that their rooms were in perfect condition so i guess we just had bad luck, but that wasn't about to ruin our trip!
Activities? there are loads! If you like sports, you'll be in heaven there. I did rock-climbing, bungy-bounce, roller-blading, tennis, trapeze, golf, sailing, went to fitness lessons, yoga...and of course there were other activities like kayaking, squash, archery, badminton etc that i didn't do because personally i don't like them but for people who do....There's also a spa that's supposed to be very good although i didn't try it. The GOs were cool, there was a good team, the CDV was great and when i was there, there were a lot of Taiwanese and French GMs. But the nationalities of GMs depends on the time of the year (the Japanese go in March, the Australians in the summer etc)
Hope that helped:-)
