Hey all.. was just wondering if Cherating is a good place to go for a graduation trip for about 25 people aged 17-19..?

What is the legal drinking age in Malaysia?
I put up a post in the Phuket folder too..

Thanks,

Hi

I think it's 21, being one of the 4 countries in the world to set it at 21. I think Phuket would be more fun - it's more of a party place, and the village is not so isolated - you can easily walk out to other bars and clubs from the village.

I think the drinking age is 18 and above. There's a free flow of alcoholic beverages in the restaurant, and I think you can drink at the bar as well.
We managed to drink without any problems as long as you at that age. I am not sure however whether if the 21 and above rule is set by CM standards.

Well, I've only been to Phuket CM once (so I may be a little bias... ), but activity wise, there is more to do in Cherating (within the village I mean). Unlike last time, they only limited their theme-related activities at night. Now they have also included other activites throughout the day. It would be a memorable vacation/graduation.

The rule in Cherating is above 21. So if you guys are planning a piss fest... I suggest you go somewhere else like Phuket. The bar in CHerating is very strict about alcohol.
have fun

All in good time

The drinking age in Malaysia is 18 years. I am surprised that Cherating enforces a 21 year old limit

i never knew of the 21 year old rule..when was this enforced? i remember drinking when i was in the teens club (admittedly, times have changed and so has club policy) so i'm curious. i always thought it was 18.

i'm also pretty sure that the age limit for alcohol in thailand is 20 and under-20s are given a different coloured wristband for identification at the bar.

Having been to both clubs a few times, Phuket would be far better for you. There is more action there. Closer to other bars and others of that age. Cherating is a bit more couple and family focused IMO.

As I am a bit off the drinking age limit I didn't pay much attention when I was in Cherating two weeks ago but as far as I remember there were warning signs in both the restaurant and bar saying that drinking alcohol below age 18 is strictly prohibited in Malaysia.

As for the choice, the last time I have been to Phuket was in May 1993 so I can't really comment as so many things could have changed since then, but having just returned from Cherating I can say that this club is meant to be very good for your age group. They have special sections where post-teenage people may not enter... They have a disc jockey corner there where guests can chose and make their own music. There is also space with a lots of games young people like to play (like table football or billiard/pool), as well as quiet corners where romance can flourish...

I think it is well worth a try, and if you go there when French holidays are on, there is a good chance you will meet more guests from your age group.

Enjoy and please let us know how it was when you are back!

Cherating is very family oriented. Disco place is not open everyday and mostly close around 2.00 PM, it is also very isolated from other resorts.
