I'm 17 turning 18 and in my last year of high school in Hong kong. For the people who don't want to go to Koh Samui for a graduation trip, we are organising a trip for part of the school year and the choices are either Club Med Phuket or Club Med Cherating. A lot of them have chosen Phuket because it's cheaper than Cheratin due to the renovation.. I've been to both before. But i was wondering if it's any good for a bunch of 18 year olds as a graduation trip...?? People are saying no to club med because they feel it's more of a family holiday place..

HELP PLEASE!!!!

=)

The answer is, that depends. I was at at the club at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The second week we had a group of students from the University of Michigan come down for Spring break. Now I have nothing against the University of Michigan which is an excellent school, but these kids were looking for the "typical" spring break, which basically meant getting and staying drunk most of the time and raising hell the rest of the time. Club Med just doesn't work for the typical Springbreakers. Can a group of 18 year olds have fun at Club Med--absolutely, especially if you are into sports. I have been to the clubs many times where there were groups of teenagers. They sort of formed their own club and had a great time. You know what kind of activities they have at those clubs. Ask yourself if those are the kinds of things that would interest your group of friends. I know there are quite a few younger people in this forum, like Ginger, who have been to the Asian clubs. I would be interested in their responses.

Yeah, i know what you mean. Thanks for your reply. We've got 2 groups this year. One group is for the heavy drinkers who are going to Koh Samui. And I've planned for a Club Med trip and we may have around 25 people in our group... Do you think Club Med would have anything specially organised for a group ...? Say huge group activities that could include guests too..? say... beach volleyball tournaments or something...?
thanks

I have heard that the club will have special activities if they know a group of a certain age group are coming down. It wouldn't hurt to check with club med office where you made your travel arrangements to see if they might have any activities arranged. You could also fax the Chef de Village in Phuket to let him/her know that you are bringing down a group of 25. Obviously, you, as a group, can form your own tournaments. Check with the Chef de Sports at the club to see if that is possible, or just do it on your own, on an informal basis. You could have your own mini-Olympics with beach volleyball, golf, swimming, archery, basketball, backgammon, darts, etc. People that age are very competitive, so participation shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.

Hello there,

As a group of 18 year old graduates (without the parents?), it will be a fun time for sure. A bunch of us went to Cherating a few years ago as a group, there shouldn't be a problem organizing your group to have your own game(s). It was really fun! Though I remembered that one can't drink in Thailand until you're 21... It depends on what time of the year you are going, too. Check on the dates for high and low seasons, cause your chances of doing your own stuff during its peak period would get a little tricky...

Yes, CM plans certain team bonding events if u come as a corporate group.

At age 18, I think it is more exciting to go Ko Samui as a group esp when they hold the Full Moon party at a neighbouring island.

Yes, legal drinking age is 21 is Thailand though I dont think they strictly enforce it at the pubs - but Be WARNED !!

No they are not strict about the drinking age at all, at least in Phuket and in certain areas of Bangkok that I have been to(ex Khao San Road). I remember when I was 18/19 I went to Patong in Phuket and they didn't ask for my ID once. They don't ask for it now either, even though I"m 21(just turned 21 in May). This year I got a chance to go to Patong with a bunch of my GO friends and it was awesome...we saw a live band play and had pretty cheap drinks. We had a hard time finding a tuk tuk to take us there tho...we had to walk for like 10 mins b4 we found one(because they had all already gone to Patong haha). But no problem finding one on the way back. PM me if you have anymore questions. I have been to Phuket alot and intend to go back around September 25th-28th for my friend's 21st bday. When are you going? I have a lot of friends there so I am looking forward to seeing them again! :) Look for Nur at the bar, Jinjeen at reception, Jenny at reception, Audrey at boutique, Alin at mini club, Wana in housekeeping, Sam at excursion, Fiona at bar. They're all great!
