I consider going to Cherating in January 2007, but I heard that there was a big problem with monkeys in this village. They get to your room, eat your food, bother you in the beach. Is this true?

Another question: where do the GMs come from? is it from one single nationality (e.g. French or Australians) or from diverse backgrounds?

And the last one: how easy it is to get there from Kuala Lumpur?

Thanks for all responses,

Joseph

Actually, the monkeys probably think they have a big problem with CM since there were there first.

It's true that the monkeys may get excited if they see your room or windows open since there is a chance of food lying around.
And that's what the GOs will warn you on arrival.

I left my bag near the pool with a sandwich in a container. A monkey actually opened the bag, took the container with the sandwich and ran away.

But all things considered, No, it is not a Big problem. I dont recall anyone being bothered at the beach by the monkeys

GMs are from all over, japs, koreans, aussies, french, singaporeans. You can Expect plenty of malaysians over the weekend.

There are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan and coach to Cherating.

I was in Cherating few days ago,and there were hardly any monkeys around.Apparently, they shot the monkeys as they were too much of a nuisance to the guests.

I think the monkeys are protected by law.

When i was there end-Sept, you can see monkeys in the jungle path leading to the pantai in the am.

In the evening before sunset, the monkeys gathered at the clearing to the right of the spa garden.

Have an enjoyable trip, Joseph, but be prepared for some rain since it is the monsoon season there

Hi Joseph,

I saw some monkeys in Cherating, but the monkeys are not a problem at all.

I would have to say... that I am not a huge wild animal lover... speaking from a woman who has a dog, two cats and 2 birds... but if I saw a monkey I would want to grab it, and have a banana margarita with him.

Perhaps if you were to encounter a monkey you should spank it. There is nothing better than spanking the monkey.

Yup.Joseph, they do shoot the monkey.According to the local staffs anyway. It might seem cruel but I apparently the monkeys are terrorizing the guests especially small kids.

Haha.Spank the monkey. That's a good idea.Maybe I should try it next time if it doesn't spank me silly first.Lol.

forget spanking the monkey, i'd be looking at what was on the buffet tables during meals just a little bit closer.

Even we as adults want to slap a kid who screams in right in our face with no reason. I don't blame the monkeys!!!!

i think it's the kids that are terrorising the monkeys.
and there are signs in the hotel room warning guests not to leave the balcony doors open.

btw they don't actually shoot to kill them, the bullets are blanks.
