This is so unfortunate. I knew him personally. He had been there over a year. Now all I have is the pictures he had given me from my prior Turkoise trips.

I'm absolutely horrified by this news! I spent over 3 weeks in Turks last October and November and it seemed like such a safe island to me.
I didn't speak with Murat but I remember seeing him around the village towards the end of my stay and he had a real friendly look about him. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace.

Murat was my favorite GO at the Turks. I refer to him as a GO because he wore a GO rather than a contractors badge. When I had nothing else to do, I would go hang around the photo center and we would surf the net looking at yachts and dreaming of sailing off into the sunset with some beautiful girls on our arms. Owning a large yacht was his dream.
Once a week or so we and a few others would take an afternoon and hit the conch shack for lunch, some local beer and a few games of domino's.
Murat liked games. I don't think he missed once joining me for midnight poker in the 40 or so games I put together during the last year.
He had a few very close GO relationships, friends. I can't imagine the shock and pain they feel.
I considered Murat to be a friend. My next trip to the Turks will be difficult. Not sure I can do it.
Where ever you are Murat, fair winds bro.........

Stringent measures for tackling violent crime POLICE have decided to step up their fight against violent crime after two people were brutally murdered in the space of just three weeks. This Wednesday Police Commissioner Edward C Hall released a press statement in which he condemned the attacks. He said the force is putting into operation a series of “calculated measures” to tackle the frightening situation. “The Turks and Caicos Islands is still a largely peaceful country but violent crime offends our community,” he wrote. “The police will do all that it can to stop the small number of individuals who have chosen a destructive course which is tarnishing the country’s reputation and image.” Effective immediately the force has increased the number of uniformed officers on regular patrol on TCI’s streets including armed officers from the Tactical Unit. A number of “targeted missions” will be carried out to flush out criminals. And the strength of the Providenciales force will be reinforced with additional officers. Commissioner Hall stressed that the community has an important role to play in partnership with the police. “We must all work together to stop those few individuals whose criminal actions cause distress to us all and damage our national pride,” he said. “I welcome the support of members of the public and the business community who have already expressed their keenness to work with the police to help keep our islands safe.” Governor Gordon Wetherell released his own statement in which he endorsed the new measures. “The Commissioner of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has this evening issued a statement underlining the increased policing measures being implemented with immediate effect. “These measures, and the resulting higher presence and stepped-up activity by police officers in our communities, have my full support. “They follow meetings I have had with the police to agree a systematic approach to tackling this upsurge in crime. “Security has always been a top priority and we are continuing to do all we can to reverse the trend in violent crime and ensure that criminals are swiftly brought to account.” Murat Kilicer, aged 30, was fatally shot by one of two masked men armed with guns on Sunday, July 18. This Tuesday 81-year-old Charity Harvey-Higgs died within minutes after she was repeatedly stabbed inside her Middle Caicos home.

What actually happened out at Pirates Cove has not and I assume will never be told. There are so many items that were left out from the news reports......
